Henry E. Sprague, Sr., 71, of Wiscasset, passed away March 18, following a brief illness.
He was born in Belfast on April 1, 1935, the son of Earl A. and Edith E. Childs Sprague. He attended local schools there.
He enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Okinawa and received the Korean Service Medal, among others.
On May 29, 1954, he married Janet I. Seekins in Belfast.
Henry worked most of his life as a master oil burner serviceman. In his spare time he enjoyed square and round dancing, gardening, hunting, traveling, and camping with his family and friends.
He was a member of the Sage Swingers Square Dance Club of Brunswick, a past member of the Belfast Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight, Cub Scout Master, and a former member of the MSAD 34 School Board.
He was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belfast, and was currently a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bath.
He was predeceased by a son, Henry E. “Jeep” Sprague in 1967; grandson, Cody D. Anctil in 1991; sister, Earlene R. Roberts; and brothers, Earl C. and John C. Sprague.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years; son, Kevin A. Sprague of Wiscasset; daughters, Elisha and husband Richard W. Elliott II of Westport Island, and Karen J. Cook and partner Daniel P. Anctil of Wales; grandchildren, George P. Cook III, Jillian L. Cook, Alyson N. Anctil, Kasey L. Anctil, Dale Sprague, Deanne Sprague, Kelly Sprague, and Samantha Sprague; brothers, Patrick R. Sprague of South Carolina and Harold M. Sprague of Belfast.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Fri., March 23 at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., Sat., March 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lincoln St., Bath, with the Rev. Richard P. Rice officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at the family lot in Belfast.
