Henry F. West, 82, of Wiscasset, died Jan. 2 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
He was born in The Bronx, N.Y. on May 2, 1927, a son of Frank and Alice (Lutz) West. He attended Finland Schools and graduated there. At the age of 25 he moved to New York and was employed as a furniture maker in New Jersey. On July 25, 1965 he married Saima Harkonen and was self-employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker. Henry built and lived in four different homes with his family. In 1993 he moved to Wiscasset where he built his last home.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and the Masonic Lodge in Kisco, N.Y.
Henry loved music, he was an opera buff and he participated in many choirs, including the choir at The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. He enjoyed camping with his son and being outdoors.
On Feb. 23, 1999 he was predeceased by his only son, John Henry West.
He is survived by his wife, Saima S. West of Wiscasset; brother, Eric West of Pennsylvania; sister, Liz Marie Benhke of Los Angeles, Cal.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in New York.
Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset at a later date. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
