Henry Thistle, 88, passed away at Cove’s Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta on the morning of July 8. Born in Everett, Mass. on April 11, 1924, he was the son of William and Hazel (Moore) Thistle.
Henry grew up in Everett, Mass., attending local schools and graduating from Everett High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a pilot during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he went on to attend, and graduate from, Northeastern University and the Wentworth Institute.
After graduating from Wentworth, he started his career as a Mechanical Engineer for the Bailey Meter Company. After a long and successful career, he retired as a vice president from the Foxboro Company in 1990.
Henry married Jean Ellingwood Howard in 1977, and the couple lived in Foxboro, Mass. for 15 years before moving to Bristol in 1992. Henry was an avid New England Patriots fan and thoroughly enjoyed music and gardening.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean; as well as brother, Roy Thistle.
He is survived by daughters, Barbara Guerriero of Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Bauman of Hudson, N.H., Carol Winters of Hudson, N.H., and Karen and husband Jack Restuccia of Tewskbury, Mass.; step-children, Gary and wife Katherine Howard of Foxboro, Mass., Robert Howard of Rochester, N.H., and Terri and husband Ed Wiseman of Norwood, Mass.; brother, Charles Thistle of Florida; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to honor Henry 2 p.m., Sat., July 14 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. He will be laid to rest following the service in the Bristol Mills Cemetery.
