Henry “Bill” Wilmarth Mott III, 79, of Maine and Florida, passed away on the morning of July 14 at the Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Born on April 12, 1933 in New York City, he was the son of Rosmond (Cutler) and Henry W. Mott Jr.
Henry grew up in Pelham, N.Y. and graduated high school from the Riverdale Country Day School. He went on to graduate from Colgate University in 1955 and would attain his PhD from Columbia University.
Henry worked as a professor and administrator for many colleges and universities, including Clarkson University, Worcester Junior College and Becker Junior College. He would later move to Sarasota, Fla. where he became an independent tax preparer with a gift for gab and bartering. Together with his wife, he summered in Maine for the last 25 years.
He is survived by wife, Lydia Pyne Mott; sons, Charles Henry Mott, Thomas Bradford Mott and wife Natalie, Daniel Lindsay Mott and significant other Noel, and Henry Wilmarth Mott and significant other Gail; step-daughter, Lydia Simonetti and husband Richard; and grandchildren, Derek, Ian, Allie, Ella and Richie.
Memorial services will be held in both Maine and Florida. He will be laid to rest privately in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Damariscotta.
