Herbert James Mullen, 76, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully in his home Oct. 14 surrounded by the love of his family. He is now in the arms of his loving wife Sandra, and in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
He was born Aug. 25, 1941 in Skowhegan. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved his family and friends. He was passionate about his faith and ministries. He spent hours fishing, and working in his garden, and being of service to others.
He will be remembered for his missionary work, traveling with the gospel group; the singing ambassadors, for his song writing, guitar playing and singing; his quiet spirit, sense of humor, and words of wisdom.
Herbert was predeceased by parents, Herbert and Muriel Mullen; wife, Sandra Arlene Mullen; daughter, Joanne Carol Powell; nephew, Aaron Mullen; brother-in-law, Michael Shaw; nephew, Charles Shaw; and special brother-in-law, William Shaw.
He is survived by daughters, Dawn and husband Henry Simmons of East Boothbay, Valerie and husband William Higgins of New Gloucester, and Maxine and husband Richard Roy of Boothbay; brother, Edwin Mullen and wife Angela of Oakland; sister, Lisa Levine and Matt of Oakland; brother-in-law, Edward Shaw and wife Betty of East Boothbay; sisters-in-law, Roberta Jones and husband Ed of Fairfield, Lois Nichols and husband Nick of Phippsburg, Kathy Stevens and husband John of Albion, and Wendy Jandebaur and husband Timothy of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Jim Simmons, Bryan O’Neal, Misty Silver, Rachael Sloat, Andrew Sloat, Walter Powell and Steven Phillips; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and the Church family and friends as well.
