Hilda Rogers, 88, of Windsor, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly, March 17 at her home.
Born in St. George, March 5, 1924, she was one of nine children of Lewis and Marjorie Taylor. Educated in St. George schools, she was a graduate of St. George High School.
June of 1946, she married Alton D. Rogers at St. George, when he returned from the military at the end of World War II.
The couple made their home at Loons Cove, St. George for a brief time before moving to Thomaston where they lived for about three years. They then moved to Rockland and later to Owls Head. Most recently since 1997, she lived in Windsor.
When her sons were younger, she was an active participant in their lives, playing ball with them and taking them to the shore. She enjoyed camping and family gatherings and was a long time member of Beaver Lodge (Knox County Fish & Game Assn.). She particularly enjoyed regular trips to “Cozy Cabins” at Greenville, where she thrilled in watching moose with her nieces Roberta Sedgwick and Irene Thibodeau.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alton on June 22, 1997; and son, Leo D. Rogers on Jan. 25.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her sons and their wives, Kendall and Dena Rogers, Steven and Debbie Rogers, all of Warren, and Russell Rogers of Waldoboro; brother, Frank Taylor of South Thomaston; sisters, Charlotte Matson of Wisconsin, and Virginia Cushman of Stonington; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
