Horace N. Killam, 83, of Bedford, N.H., former resident of Kittery and long-time resident of Round Pond and Sandown, N.H., passed away on Oct. 19 after a brief illness. Born in Andover, Mass. he was the son of the late Horace and Maud Killam. He was a graduate of the Punchard High School, Andover, Mass. class of 1946. He also attended the Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass. Horace also served in the National Guard.
Horace started his career as a church organist at the young age of 16 at the Emmanual Baptist Church in Ipswich, Mass. He blessed many churches with his talent as a musician and choir director including Parker St. Methodist Church, Lawrence, Mass.; First Parish Church, Haverhill, Mass.; St. George’s Primitive Methodist, Methuen, Mass.; Free Church, Andover, Mass.; Brookside Congregational Church, Manchester, N.H.; Kensington Congregational Church, Kensington, N.H.; Union Church, Danville, N.H.; Goffstown Congregational Church, Goffstown, N.H.; Trinity Presbyterian Church, Surfside Beach, S.C.; Second Congregational Church, Newcastle, and others. Horace also brought his gift of music to dozens of children and adults by teaching piano and organ lessons. He also held positions at A&P and Demoulas grocery stores.
Horace was an avid hiker and had climbed some of the mountains in the presidential range in New Hampshire and all of the mountains in Acadia National Park. He also enjoyed building rock walls and beautified a few landscapes with this talent.
Horace was predeceased by his wife, Alice; and brother, Dwight.
He is survived by his sister, Martha Morrison; son, Edwin and wife Tory; daughters, Cheryl and Ellen; grandchildren, Meredith, Justin, Jessica, Rebecca and Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 27 at the Bremen Union Church, 523 Waldoboro Rd., Bremen.
