Howard Cyrus Delano, 68, of Waldoboro, died April 20 at Pen Bay Medical Center after a brief illness with his loving daughter, Kelly, by his side. Howard was born May 19, 1939 in Friendship, a son of Cyrus H. and Grace Benner Delano. He attended schools in Friendship and Waldoboro. He made his living digging clams and marine blood worms until he had to stop due to failing health.
Howard was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Arcana Lodge No. 102, Thomaston.
In his younger days, Howard owned a thriving “Pizza House” on Main Street in Waldoboro, and later on in the 70’s, he owned and operated a pool room called, “Cy’s Place” on the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets in Waldoboro.
He was an avid CB-er for many years with the handle of “Little Red Fox”. Howard also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox.
Howard loved spending winters in Florida. His first season was in Jacksonville and then he later moved further down the West Coast to enjoy the company of his brother, Kendall, and wife, Roberta.
Howard was predeceased by his father, Cyrus H. Delano, paternal grandmother, Annie Delano and maternal grandmother, Elva Benner.
Survivors include his mother, Grace Delano of Friendship; son, Tony Delano of Westbrook; daughters, Kelly Delano and Vicky Simmons of Waldoboro; sisters, Patricia Chapman and husband Harold of Waldoboro, and Marlene Powell of Friendship; brothers, Kendall Delano and wife Roberta of Friendship, and Cedric Delano and wife Rusty of Friendship; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and great-long time friends, Lee Powell and Eugene “Gene” Winchenbach of Waldoboro.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., April 24 at Hall Funeral Home and Cremation, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of Howard’s life 2 p.m., Fri., April 25 at Hall Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Brookland Cemetery in Waldoboro.
