Ira Dell “Shag” Teele, 52, of Warren, died July 13 at his residence after a brief illness. Ira was born May 19, 1952 in Bremen, the son of Burton W. and Catherine E. Cushman Teele. He attended Bremen schools.
He began working as a youngster, clamming to help support his family, and at the age of 17 began to scallop, which he did for over 20 years before his health forced him to slow down. He continued to fish for tuna and occasionally went scalloping when he could.
Ira enjoyed NASCAR racing and collecting its memorabilia, hunting, fishing, smelting and ice fishing.
On July 3, 2006, he married Pamela L. West, after having to move up their wedding date from September, due to his failing health.
He is predeceased by his father; brother, Wesley Ellis; and two sisters, Annie Willey and Georgia Benner.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Teele of Warren; son, Toby Teele of Florida; stepson, Jacob West of Warren; mother, Catherine Teele of Port Clyde; two brothers, Milford Ellis of Waldoboro and Burton Teele, Jr. of Boothbay Harbor; four sisters, Bridget Palino, Virginia Call, and Gladys Collamore, all of Florida, and Gertrude Harnish of Damariscotta; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Mon., July 17 at the Brookland Cemetery, Waldoboro.
