Irma Chase McLoon, 87, died on Nov. 12 at her home in Damariscotta, according to her wishes, amongst family members and Miles Hospice attendees and volunteers.
She was born in Chamberlain on March 6, 1922, the daughter of Leverett E. Chase and Mary Reeves Chase and was the youngest of six children. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Bristol High School, Class of 1938. She married shortly thereafter and spent much of her life as a homemaker, enjoying her favorite hobbies of quilting, cooking and gardening.
During WWII she worked at BIW, trained as a welder. She also did proofreading for the Lincoln County News. Later, for nearly 28 years, she was employed by Larson’s Lunch Box. Irma especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox with her grandson, Eric. Together they spent many an hour enduring the highs and lows of their favorite baseball team.
She was predeceased by her father and mother; older sister Mildred Chase Garnett; brothers Leverett Chase, Jr., Reuben Chase and William Chase; and by her first husband, John Hilton, and second husband, Charles “Shike” McLoon.
She is survived by her brother, Norman Chase of Chamberlain; children, John Hilton and wife, Brenda of Newcastle, Stephanie Hilton Ferrell and husband, Jim of Murphy, N. C., Clifton Hilton of Old Orchard Beach, Walter Hilton and wife, Vicki of Damariscotta, Kathy McLoon Timberlake and husband, Bob of Woolwich, Mary McLoon Sidelinger and husband, Fred of Newcastle, and Michael McLoon and wife, Peggy of Jefferson; sisters-in-law Katherine McLoon Crowley of Westbrook and Ruth McLoon House of Damariscotta; as well as grandchildren – Dennis Hilton, Kelly Hilton Flynn, Krista Hilton Ferrand, Kevin Jordan, Renee Jordan Lane, Kimberly Jordan Cycyk, Tammy Hilton Dinsmore, Donna Hilton, Scott Hilton, Heather Hilton Hartford, Heidi Hilton Clark, Eric York, Jennifer York, Jessica Stover Lapping, and Holly Zeller; as well as numerous great grand-children, nieces and nephews.
At her request, there will be no public funeral service. A private graveside service for family members has been arranged for Sat., Nov. 21, where she will be laid to rest in the Ocean Hill Cemetery, Rt. 32 in Chamberlain.
