Irving Giles, 84, of Boothbay, died peacefully on March 18 at St. Andrews Hospital due to complications from kidney and liver failure.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924 in Boothbay, the son of Eleazer and Marion Stover Giles and attended Southport and Boothbay schools.
He worked for the state Department of Transportation and Town of Boothbay road crews and several of the area shipyards before becoming self employed. At one point, he owned and operated three different businesses at one time: a sea worm business, a Dairy Freeze and for 27 years The Irving Giles Rubbish Removal.
Irving loved the outdoors, his family and his animals. He enjoyed cutting wood and working in the woods with his own father, his sons and his son-in-law. He also loved being on the water, going boating with his daughter and son-in-law. Irving loved the challenge of working on his own equipment and meeting his many customers, looking forward to their return each year. He cherished the annual holiday gatherings with the entire extended family, proudly watching it grow as the years went by.
He was a long time member of the Boothbay Fire Dept. and for over 50 years a member of the Bay View Masonic Lodge # 196 AF & AM.
