J. Emma Thomas (Munsey), 91, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away Feb. 28 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta after a period of failing health.
Emma was born Dec. 19, 1920 in Boothbay, the daughter of Charles Austin and Josephine Gray Campbell, and attended local schools.
Known for her hard work ethic, she was a clam dealer in the area in the late 1940s and 50s, waitressed in many local restaurants including Robinson’s Wharf and Mariner’s Grill, and from 1967 to 1983 when she retired, worked at Health Tex in Brunswick making children’s clothing.
She was a member of the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary in Boothbay and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include sons, Richard Austin Nolon and wife Mary of Boothbay, John W. Thomas of Dresden, and Lorance Ted Thomas of Boothbay; daughter, Lona Jane Brewer of Waldoboro; 26 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Tues., March 6 at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Boothbay.
