Jacalyn “Jackie” Betty Kinney, 62, of Warren, passed away on July 5 after a four-year, courageous battle fighting stage four breast cancer and eventually passing from liver cancer at the Sussman House in Rockport, surrounded by her two daughters Heidi and Holly.
Jackie was born on March 21, 1956 to James and Geraldine (Jerry) Kinney. As a little girl Jackie helped on her parents’ chicken farm.
Jackie had many passions in her life taking care of her mother Jerry Kinney until she passed away on June 2, 2013, and her Harley Davidson motorcycle she named “Purrfec” which she rode often with her best friend Heidi Stevens.
Jackie enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters Emma Lou and Brooke Lyn whom she loved so much. Jackie was a big fan of the Medomak Valley boys basketball team, she didn’t miss a game and would even travel to see them play. She loved being with her family and friends and playing Scrabble with her daughters and granddaughters. Jackie’s pride and joy was her granddaughter Emma Lou, whom she enjoyed watching achieve her goals. Jackie loved spending time with her cats Oddee and Ozzie, who never left her side through her battle. Jackie fought her battle with cancer for four years with numerous trips to the cancer center in Topsham as well as the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. She always had her first born daughter, Heidi, by her side. Jackie would often stop on the way to or back from her appointments and visit with Melissa Bryant, which she enjoyed doing and Melissa was always happy to see Jackie. Jackie also enjoyed spending time with her long time friends Vicki Gower and Mark Johnson of Thomaston.
She was predeceased by her parents, James E. and Jerry Kinney; brother, Jimmy; sister, Jean Overlock; nephew, John Lord; and best friend, Marlene Bean.
Jackie is survived by daughters, Heidi White of Waldoboro and companion Dana Smith Jr. of Rockport; Holly Bryant of Augusta, and husband Antonio Bryant of Virginia Beach, Va.; adopted daughter, Dorcey Cleveland and husband Randy of Harrison; granddaughters, Emma Hooper of Waldoboro, and Brooke Bryant of Brunswick; adopted granddaughters, Piper and Peyton Cleveland of Harrison, and Kaysee Leary of Thomaston; sisters, Janice Overlock and husband Albert of Warren, Joyce Campbell of Warren, Janet Dyer-Perry of Warren, Judy Lord and husband John of Mears, Va., and Julie Kinney of Rockland; and brother, Joel Kinney and wife Kathy of Waldoboro; many nieces and nephews; and best friend she called “Sista,” Heidi Stevens and husband David Hooper of Rockland.
A celebration of life for Jackie will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., July 27 at the Warren Congregational Church on Main Street in Warren, followed by a gathering downstairs. Jackie’s daughters are asking family and friends to wear orange and black, or red, white and blue, or motorcycle gear in memory of their mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jackie’s name to the “Jackie’s Fund” account set up at the Midcoast Credit Union to help with the cost of funeral expenses.
