Jack O. Pauley, 73, of Waldoboro, passed away Aug. 11 at the Togus Medical Center in Togus.
He was born Otis John Pauley, Feb. 18, 1935 in Rockland, a son of Isaac McCaslin, Sr. and Ruth Louise Phelps. At the age of 15, he was adopted by the late Rensford Pauley. He grew up in the area and attended local schools and in New York.
On March 20, 1952, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on March 15, 1955.
After the service, he became a licensed arborist, working in Connecticut, Maine and New York. He worked for various landscapers where he completed all of the landscaping for many colleges and universities. His fondest memories are of climbing, pruning and also removing some of the most famous elm trees from Maine to Connecticut.
He was a lifetime member of the Rockland V.F.W., the Korean War Veteran s Association and the Waldoboro American Legion.
He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and growing trees.
He was predeceased by his parents; adoptive father; several brothers and sisters; a great granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Winslow and his pal of 13 years Sam, a fox terrier.
Survivors include his wife, June Maxine Abbott Pauley of Waldoboro; children, Kim Jo-Ann Pauley of Amesbury, Mass., Kathy Jean Mills and husband Mike of Liberty, Ruth Virginia Dodd of Belfast, Karen Jamie Heal and husband Bill of Warren, Jack Scott Pauley and wife Cheryl of St. George, Jason Lynus Pauley and wife Kimberly of Waldoboro, Lisa Marie Dow and husband Dana of Waldoboro, and Kathy Lynn Foster and husband Dwight of Grand Isle, Fla.; brother, George Phelps and wife Nellie of Corono, Cal.; sisters, Roberta Bourassa and husband Arthur of Lewiston, Daphana Morse of Thomaston, and Julie French and husband John of Camden; a very good friend, Wayne Little of Waldoboro; 27 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 14 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Celebration of Jack’s life 2 p.m., Fri., Aug. 15 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Orff Cemetery in Waldoboro.
