James Allen Lorenzen Sr., 63, passed away with his family by his side at Quarry Hill in Camden on July 20 after more than a decade battling Multiple Sclerosis.
Jim was born on June 1, 1954 in Newton Highlands, Mass. to Henry “Hank” and Jean Heymer Lorenzen. The family moved to St. George in 1956 where Jim attended the local schools and he graduated from Georges Valley High School in Thomaston in the class of 1972.
After graduation Jim entered Southern Maine Vocational Technical School for automotive technology. After successful completion of that he went to work for his father at “Hank’s Exxon” on Park Street in Rockland until his dad retired. Jim then went to Bangor where he was employed as the U-Haul station manager until his illness made it so he could no longer work.
Jim had a great “dry” sense of humor and was an accomplished fisherman. He loved to play cribbage and a good poker game was always welcomed.
Jim very much enjoyed Country Western music and above all else his New England Patriots football team. He proudly displayed a large Patriots flag on his wall in his room at Quarry Hill. He took great pleasure in being a part of the Quarry Hill community where he overlooked his own disability to cheer up the other residents.
Jim so loved his grandchildren and was very proud of them.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Jim’s is survived by son, James Lorenzen Jr. and daughter-in-law Sarah; granddaughters, Isabel Rae and Madeline Sue, all of Tulsa, Okla.; loving best friend, Sheryl Sutherland of Winslow; sister, Nancy (Phil) Hatch of Damariscotta; brother, John (Mary) Lorenzen of Farmingdale; sister, Barbara (Brian) Dubia of Wolfeboro, N.H.; and nephews, Justin Lorenzen of Appleton, and Kevin Dubia of Ashland, N.H.
Jim’s family will honor his life at 10 a.m., Sat., Sept. 30 when he will be laid to rest, along with his parents, at the Ridge Cemetery in Tenants Harbor. All family, friends and those whose lives Jim, Jean and Hank had touched are welcome to attend.
The family has requested that donations in Jim’s name be sent to Quarry Hill Activities Fund, 30 Community Dr., Camden, ME 04843.
