James Alfred Dowling, Sr., of North Whitefield, died Oct. 3 at home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Wiscasset Nov. 9, 1934, a son of Joseph James and Gwendolyn Flora Dowling. Mr. Dowling worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter. He also worked as a wood cutter for many years. He worked construction. He was a great carpenter and could do about anything.
James is predeceased by his father, brother-in-law, Ron Demeny and son-in-law, Kenneth T. Dostie, Sr.
He is survived by his wife Florence of 55 years; mother; two sons, James Jr. and wife Cathy of Dresden and Jonathan and girlfriend Shari of Jefferson; three daughters, Lori Allen and husband Jon of Whitefield, Paula Engstrom and husband Kraig of Whitefield, and Pamela Perry and husband Burt of Whitefield; stepson, Millard Spinney and wife Jeanne of Kenai, Alas.; three sisters, Natalie Demeny, Jayne Oakes and husband Larry and Donna Peddle and husband Roy; brother, Theodore Dowling; several nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral. Family gathering will be held at a later date.
