James Edward Meyers, 68, of Bremen, passed away at his home on the evening of July 30 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Venice, Fla. on Jan. 26, 1945, he was the son of Robert P. and Bertha (Kwash) Meyers.
Jim moved from Florida to Connecticut at a very early age, and grew up in Southington, Conn. where he would go on to graduate from Southington High School. After graduation, he served honorably with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Upon his discharge, he met a special education teacher in Connecticut, Karen “Kandy” Hall of Damariscotta. The couple would marry and move back to Kandy’s hometown where she got a job at the Bristol Consolidated School. During this time, Jim went to work repairing appliances throughout the area, eventually opening his own business, Medomak Appliance Service.
Jim enjoyed travelling, and had spent the last several winters in Florida. Besides his family, there was nothing he liked more than motorcycles, guns and fast cars.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Karen “Kandy” Meyers.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Meyers and husband Ryan Cilbrith of Canaan, N.H.; partner of several years, Sue Morang of Bremen; brother, Robert P. Meyers Jr. and wife Barbara of Winsted, Conn.; sisters, Kathleen Meyers and husband Alan Mordhorst of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Judith Meyers and partner Wayne Smith of Coventry, Conn.; grandchildren, Alanna and Brayden Cilbrith; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.
A time to visit with the family will be held 4-6 p.m., Sun., Aug. 4 from at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tues., Aug. 6 at the St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. While you may dress up for the services if you wish, the family asks that you attend in clothing you’d normally wear… a feeling they’re sure Jim shares.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Disabled Vets of America, or the Norris Cotton Cancer Center of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
