James H. McLaughlin, 76, of Round Pond, passed away on the evening of Sept. 29 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta. Born on Sept. 3, 1936 in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of William and Adeline (Webber) McLaughlin.
James was a 1954 graduate of Waldoboro High School, and attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He spent his life working as a lobsterman on Muscongus Bay, beginning to fish at the age of eight.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served honorably for four years. Upon his discharge, he came back to Maine and married Lois Westfall. He was known as a loving family man, who enjoyed vacationing in Florida and skiing at Lost Valley with his girls.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, John Bowers in 2011.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Lois McLaughlin of Round Pond; daughters, Lisa Bowers of Nobleboro and Tammy Begley and husband Peter of Rye, N.H.; grandchildren, Adrienne Irons and husband Tim of Newcastle, Ryan Bowers and wife Chelsea of Nobleboro, and Chloe and Caleb Begley of Rye, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Noah Irons of Newcastle; brother, Robert McLaughlin and wife Helen of Bremen; nephews, Robbie, Brian, Steven and Shannon; niece, Lauren; special niece, Macy; and many, many friends.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Round Pond.
