Jane C. Lang, 61, of Georgetown, died of Mesothelioma on Oct. 30 at Mid Coast Hospital after a valiant fight. Her sons, sister, and mom were with her to support her to the end.
She was born in Bath on Oct. 1, 1946, a daughter of James and Marjorie Jones Oliver. She grew up in Georgetown on the family land, which she loved.
She was a member of the Rainbow Girls of the Masonic Order.
She graduated from Morse High School in 1964, while there she was elected to Girl s State and was a Mohiba Queen candidate her junior year. She attended and graduated from Central Maine Medical Center as a registered nurse. She served as President of her class at nursing school and was elected a candidate to the National Student Nurse Convention in San Francisco, Cal.
She began her nursing career in 1967 at Bath Memorial Hospital as a maternity nurse. She did school nursing for a short period, and then returned to maternity at Bath Memorial Hospital, where she spent 26 years.
Jane doted on her grandchildren and taught them to love nature, and took them hiking and wildlife watching. Her passion was the annual spring adventure to Lambert Lake. Her talents were sewing, crafts, photography, and bird watching. Her love of people was woven throughout her life.
She is predeceased by her father, James Oliver, Sr.; brother, Michael Oliver; stepbrother, James Oliver Jr.; and uncle, Francis Oliver, all of Georgetown.
She is survived by her mother, Marjorie Oliver; sons, Jason C. Lang and wife Cheryl, and James (Jimbo) Lang and wife Amy, all of Georgetown; sister, Joyce A. Oliver of Georgetown; stepsisters, Judy Chancellor of Yukon, Okla., and Sharon Knapp of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Destinie, Brittany, Jordan, Mercedes, Katahdin, and Jack Lang, all of Georgetown; nephew, Michael Ferrell, currently serving in Iraq; grandnieces, Delaina and Alexis Ferrell; two aunts; and several cousins of Damariscotta.
Visiting hours 2-5 p.m., Mon., Nov. 5 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Celebration of her life 11 a.m., Tues., Nov. 6 at Georgetown Baptist Church, with Rev. Barry Moore officiating. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Five Islands Community Center. Burial will be in the Old Oliver Family Cemetery on the family property in Georgetown.
