Jane H. Sawyer, 86, passed away in the arms of family on Dec. 20 in Orlando, Fla.
Born in Belleville, N.J., Dec. 20, 1921, to William J. and Johanna A. (Frey) Horgan, she graduated from high school in 1939, then received a certificate in secretarial science from the Berkley Secretarial School.
Miss Horgan worked for American Airlines for over five years, first as a secretary, then in 1943 as a stewardess. She loved aviation so much she married Eastern Airlines pilot, Haven ‘Tom’ Sawyer, Jr., on Nov. 22, 1947 and moved to the Boston, Mass. area. By 1950, Duxbury, Mass. was home where they raised three sons.
Her favorite pastimes were reading, swimming, antiquing and travel.
Retirement sent the couple packing to New Harbor in 1980. They wintered in the Orlando, Fla. area after 1985.
Jane leaves behind, in loving memory, sons Robert, William and Michael (Suzanne); a grandson; and great-grandson.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2002.
Funeral 10 a.m., Sat., Jan 5 in the chapel at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St, Damariscotta.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Harrington Cemetery, Pemaquid.
