Jean Childs Durfee, 77, of Boothbay Harbor, died Sept. 18 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. She was born Dec. 24, 1930 in Southport, a daughter of Edward Wesley Childs and Margaret Foggin Childs. She grew up on Southport and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School.
She worked for Depositors Trust and Key Bank for many years until she retired. She was married to Lawrence Durfee for 47 years. She enjoyed cooking for the workers at Sea Pier and also for the Public Works Crew especially on stormy nights in the winter. She was a charter member of the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service. She loved to go camping, take pictures and making movies. She also liked canning, and feeding her ducks.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Durfee who died Sept. 2, 2001; sisters, Dorothy Marr and Marjorie Collins; and brother, Earl Whidden.
She is survived by three sisters, Eleanor “Fran” Johnson of Southport, Caroline Damery of Southport and Betty Goulette of Southport, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
At her request there will be no funeral.
