Jennie F. Cromwell, 95, of Westport Island, passed away on Sept. 12 surrounded by love at her daughter-in-law’s home.
She was born in Jonesport on March 28, 1912, a daughter of Archie and Julia (Alley) Brewer. Jennie grew up in Boothbay and attended Boothbay schools.
On Sept. 1, 1928 she married Edwin R. Cromwell and they made their home on Westport Island.
She was employed at Bath Iron works during WWII and employed as a waitress at several local restaurants. In the 1950’s Jennie and her husband owned and operated Bayside Oaks snack bar on Westport Island for over 20 years. She served on the school board and was a ballot clerk for more than 40 years for Westport Island. She was a member of the Rebekah’s.
She enjoyed dancing, camping, playing bingo and playing cribbage with her daughter-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin R. Cromwell on May 8, 2001; sons, Richard, as an infant, and Alfred L. Cromwell on Oct. 4, 2002; brothers, Tom Brewer, Vernon Brewer, Herbert Brewer, and Stillman Brewer; and sisters, Nora Clifford, Margaret Emerson, LuLu Sprague and Cornelia Johannson.
She is survived by two daughters, Myrna L. Dow and husband Donald of Westport Island, and Janice Lester and husband Albert of Westport Island; brother, Eddie Brewer of Trevett; sisters, Irma Heaberlin of Boothbay and Nancy McKnight of Bristol; daughter-in-law, Barbara M. Cromwell; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
