Joan E. Spofford, 62, passed away unexpectedly at Midcoast Memorial Hospital in Brunswick on Nov. 2, with her loving family by her side.She was born on Jan. 8, 1952 in Kittery, the daughter of the Earl and Virginia (Estes) Ward.
Growing up in Portland she attended local schools including Deering High School. Joan had to leave school but always made it a point to return taking night classes through Medomak Valley High School and eventually obtaining her diploma, an accomplishment she was very proud of.
In her working life she could usually be found in the kitchen at various places throughout the Midcoast, including many years at Ande’s market.
Joan loved riding around the region and going to thrift stores always looking for her next big find. Joan loved getting flowers and would proudly display them around the house. While at home Joan loved to cook and the family always looked forward to her famous homemade noodles.
Joan would spend countless hours on the computer playing various games, an activity she thoroughly enjoyed. One thing Joan was famous for was her nails, she loved giving herself manicures and was quick to show of her latest color choice. She also loved collecting dolls.
Over the last few years as she bravely fought Breast Cancer, she was proud to have her family at her side. It was their love and support that made the difficult times bearable. She was well loved and well respected by many members of her community.
She is predeceased by her father Earl Ward and a sister Mary Lou Greenwood.
Survivors include her loving husband of 12 years, Todd Spofford, of Waldoboro; mother Virginia Greenwood of Windham; children Randy Lee Oiler of Hope; Bobbi Jo Carver, and husband Brian, of Jefferson; Joseph B. Oiler, and wife Stephanie, of Hermon; stepchildren Racheal Spofford of Warren; Eric Spofford of Waldoboro; and Kelly Soule of Boothbay; grandchildren Aliza “Bear”, A.J., Taylor, Colby, Mackenzie, and Isaac.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. in the afternoon at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. Waldoboro, with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
