Joan W. Hallowell, 66, of Nobleboro, passed away at her home on the morning of June 4 with her husband, Larry Hallowell, by her side after losing her battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Damariscotta on March 27, 1952, she was the daughter of Ralph and Abby (Brown) Welton.
Joan grew up in Damariscotta, attended local schools, and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1970. She worked at Damariscotta Bank & Trust prior to beginning a long-standing career at Camp Kieve. There she developed life-long friends and enjoyed the Kieve community that she always held dear to her heart. She also served numerous posts for the town of Nobleboro, working on the board of selectman, planning board, and budget committee as well as acting as the treasurer and town clerk.
Joan had a wicked sense of humor and sharp wit that kept everyone on their toes. She fiercely loved her family and friends… almost as much as she loved the Beatles – particularly Paul McCartney. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, husband, and children. She enjoyed baking her famous apple pies and cakes for birthdays and family gatherings.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Jon Welton, Paul Welton, and Ann Libby.
She is survived by husband, Larry Hallowell; brother, Robert Welton and wife Sandy Welton; sons, Brent Hallowell and wife Becky, and Brian Hallowell and wife Michele; beloved grandchildren, Carson Hallowell, Nate True, and Sam True; granddog, Penny; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Mon., June 11 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tues., June 12, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery.
