John Arthur Thompson, 74, of Hilton Head, S.C. and Friendship, and formerly of Mequon, Wis., passed away peacefully on Sept. 21 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
John was born Aug. 28, 1937 to Don and Ethel Thompson in Des Moines, Ia. and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a BS degree in Ceramic Engineering. John worked for over 30 years for Cutler-Hammer and Eaton Corp. in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. John was a kind, gentle and patient man, he loved golfing and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister, Donna Scott.
John is survived by his wife, Mary A. Thompson (nee Flood); children, Deborah and husband Daniel Knuth, Charles and wife Sarah and John E. Thompson; grandchildren, Conner, Danny and Julia Knuth, Mia, Timothy and Mason Thompson; and brother, Dennis Thompson and wife Anita.
Funeral services 1 p.m., Sat., Oct. 1 at United Methodist Church, 24 Main St., Friendship with interment 2 p.m., at the Roadside Cemetery on Waldoboro Rd. in Friendship. A separate remembrance of John will be planned for October in Hilton Head, S.C.
