John C. French, 63, of Dresden, died Aug. 9 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 8, 1943, a son of Fred W. and Virginia B. (Hill) French. He attended Bath schools.
On Aug. 13, 1983, he married Bertha Varnum and they resided in Dresden. He was employed at Mid Coast Hospital as a boiler operator for forty years. He was a member of the Dresden Fire Department.
He loved spending time with his children, and grandchildren and listening to country music with his father; he enjoyed gardening, motorcycles and watching eagles.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Bertha A. French, of Dresden; one son, Roger E. Varnum and wife Laurie of Bath; two daughters, Anna M. Douglass and husband Bryan of Bath and Victoria Ruel and husband Raymond of Berlin, N.H.; two brothers, David E. French and wife Linda of Bath and Charles E. French and partner Al of Portland; two sisters, Sandra L. Freeman and husband Richard of Bath and Sharon L. Proback and husband Randy of Bath; seven grandchildren, Robert Varnum, Brandon Varnum, David Varnum, Bethany Varnum, Mason Varnum, Samantha Varnum, and Travis Ruel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Thomas C. Varnum, on Dec. 31, 1997; one brother, Fred W. French; and one sister, Mary Leeman.
