John Clarence Moody Jr., 79, of Union, passed away July 18 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport after period of failing health.
John was born Aug. 2, 1931 in Union, the son of John Clarence and Florence Burns Moody Sr., and is a graduate of Union High School, class of 1948.
He joined the family business making wreaths. In 1954 he married Barbara Calderwood, and a year later entered the service, joining the U.S. Army, and then serving in the Air Force Reserves. Upon his discharge, they made their home in Union, owning and operating Moody’s Boarding Home from 1974 until their retirement in 1994.
John attended the Peoples United Methodist Church in Union.
Active in several Masonic bodies, he was a member and Past Master of Union Lodge #31, AF & AM in Union, served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 9th Masonic District from 1979-80, and a former member of Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston, where he was active with the Kora Craftsman Degree Team.
He is survived by his wife Barbara C. Moody of Union; sons, Darrell Moody and companion Wilda Lopez of Union and Paul Moody and companion Stephanie Sherman of Winslow; grandchildren, Melody Moody, Ginger Moody, both of Waldoboro, and Lillian Moody of Sidney; great-granddaughter, Kayle Booker of Waldoboro; great-grandsons, Hendrix Hallowell and Cullen Booker, both of Waldoboro; step-granddaughters, Mary Garcia of Boston and Anna Garcia of Colorado; step-grandson, Deven Sherman of Winslow; and many cousins.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m., Mon., July 25 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Graveside service at 4 p.m. at the Union Common Cemetery with a Masonic Memorial service with Rev. George Hodgkins officiating.
