John D. Pellett, Jr. passed away in Damariscotta on Aug. 8 during his annual visit to his family home in Friendship.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1918 in Greenville, SC. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Civil Engineering and served in the US Navy SeaBees during WWII.
John, his childhood friend Heyward Morgan and their college friend, Bud Tracy founded Triangle Construction Company in 1947. He retired as Chairman of the Board in 1990. John’s strong commitment to his church, the community and education was evidenced by his participation in numerous civic organizations and collegiate boards and committees.
He was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. He was also past president of the Carolina’s branch of the Associated General Contractors of America.
John was predeceased by his sister, Margueritte Pellett Burnett; his brother, Allen B. Pellett and his son-in-law, Scott Webb.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Lane Pellett; sister-in-law, Gail R. Pellett; children and their spouses, Tom and Margaret Pellett, Lane and Frank Quinn, Tracy and Martha Pellett, Charles and Betty Pellett, Marguerite and Patrick Hogan, and Joan Webb; grandchildren, John B. Pellett, Alex Pellett, Mary Lane and David Sloan, Erin Quinn, Bryan Quinn, Frances Stern, Daniel Stern, John D. Pellett, Lizzy Hogan, Lauren Hogan, Parker Hogan, Matt Webb and Caroline Webb; great-grandchild, Emmaline Sloan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 3 p.m., Sun., Aug. 16 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, S.C. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. There will be a private committal service.
