John Edward Murray III, 69, of Nobleboro, died Dec. 2 at his home. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn. on Dec. 29, 1944 to John Edward Murray II and Anne Marie (Remick) Murray.
John was a graduate of Cherry Hill High School in New Jersey in the class of 1963. John was a lieutenant for the Woodcrest Fire Department in Cherry Hill, N.J. and served the local community for several years.
He worked as a salesman for Prudential Life Insurance Company. In 1972, John moved to Maine, where he started driving a delivery truck for Perdue. In 1977, he became a business partner with Peter Richards, eventually buying out and becoming sole owner of the business now known as Hillside Collision Center in Waldoboro.
John was an active member in the community. He was past president, secretary and treasurer of Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club. John received Rotary’s highest honor when he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow for his leadership in community service. He was also very dedicated to the Medomak Valley Community Foundation. He continually donated to his community and helped to provide for many local kids’ sports programs. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His work was his passion and he was dedicated to the success of his business. He was a well respected member of his industry and was admired by his business associates.
He is preceded in death by his father John E. Murray II; mother, Anne M. Murray; and son, Kevin P. Murray.
John is survived by wife, Jolene M. Murray of Nobleboro; sons, John E. Murray IV and wife Debbie of Waldoboro, Scott W. Murray and wife Vicki of Camden, and Brian C. Murray and wife Wendy of Wiscasset; daughters, Colleen S. Reynolds and husband Jeremy of Waldoboro, and Alicia M. Kirkpatrick and husband Josh of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Zachery Durkee, John Murray V, Shauna Murray, Jacob Murray, Courtney Allen, Jacob Allen, Laurali Reynolds, and Ethan Kirkpatrick; brother, William Murray and wife Belinda of Sewell, N.J.; sister, Rosemary Stelmach and husband John of Sewell, N.J.; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 4 at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A graveside service to celebrate John’s life will be held 2 p.m., Fri., Dec. 5 at the Marr Cemetery, Razorville Road (Route 105) in Washington. Rev. Robin Honaker will officiate.
