John Gray Baldwin, Jr., passed away July 1 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Pomata of Aldie, Va.
John was born Nov. 10, 1915 in Montclair, N.J. He worked for 30 plus years at Aircraft Radio Corp, later Sesna, in Boonton Twp., N.J. where he and his “bride” Edith Loudin raised two sons and a daughter. He retired in 1971 and shortly thereafter they moved to Maine and lived near their son, Alan and his family. While living in Damariscotta he was very active in the Damariscotta Baptist Church and worked on the steeple restoration completed in the 1980s.
In 1986 they moved to Woodstock, Va. where they enjoyed the fellowship of their peers at the church there and the close proximity to their daughter and her children.
When his cherished “bride” died of Alzheimer’s disease in 2005, John remained in their home until his health deteriorated. As his health declined he move to Aldie to live with his daughter, where he has lived for the past two years.
He was a life-time student of history; impeccably honest and fair in his daily dealings with others; had a strong Christian faith by which he lived his life; and a total devotion to wife and family. He was a fine example to his family and well respected and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by two sisters, Anne Fritzinger and Jean Kingsland; daughter, Ginger and husband Lenny Pomata of Aldie, Va., and their three children, Richie, Michael and Mark; sons, Howard and wife Nancy Baldwin of Chatham, N.J., and their daughter, Jaclyn LeLane, and Alan and Mollie Baldwin, and their two daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth of Nobleboro; and eight great-grandchildren.
Family celebration of his life is planned for later this summer.
