John Leslie Richards, 77, of Whitefield, passed away peacefully on July 19 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, with his son Karl, daughter, Dawn, daughter-in-law Judy, and grandchildren Shawn, Jennifer, Kasie, and Drew by his side and his son Lee by phone. He was born in Newton, Mass. on Jan. 30, 1936, the son of the late Langdon and Evelyn Beatrice (Davis) Richards Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a carpenter by trade. He was a very colorful character throughout his life, and he always treasured visits from his children and other members of his family. He had a deep appreciation for art and animals.
He was predeceased by brothers, Frederick Richards, and Langdon Richards Jr.
He is survived by his children, Karl Richards and wife Judy, Dawn and husband Gilles Dulac, and Lee Richards and wife Jennifer, all of Whitefield; twin sister, Judith Blethen of Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer, Drew, Shawn, Kasie, Jordan, and Griffin; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ayla, Brady, Lily, Dylan and Luke.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
