John Wilson Maines, 77, died Oct. 27 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. He was born March 23, 1931 in Phippsburg, and was the son of William F. and Addie Maines of Phippsburg. John was the brother of Charles Sr., deceased and Betsy Hastings, deceased, uncle to Danny Maines of Freeport and Charles Jr. of Round Pond; and great-uncle to Hilary Maines of Freeport, Crystal Maines of Morrow, and Danny II Maines and William Maines, both of Freeport.
John loved the outdoors, working as a woodsman, carpenter and gardener most of his life. He lived in Round Pond for many years working for Mr. Harry (Mitt) Masters who was a very good friend. John then resided at the Boothbay Green, an assisted living facility, where he received great care for the past four years. His dog, Mandy, a cocker spaniel, was his constant companion. John loved working on puzzles, playing checkers and cards as well as going out to have a good fish dinner. He attended the Boothbay Baptist Church.

Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to the Coast of Maine Cremation Center.
