Jolene Ruth Witham, 41, of Jefferson, passed suddenly at Maine Medical Center with her loving family at her side on Feb. 19.
Jolene was born on Nov. 12, 1977 to Weston Witham and Donna (Johnston) Witham in Damariscotta.
Jolene attended local schools and graduated from Cony High School in Augusta. She worked in the Goodwill Working Program as well as the Goodwill Day Program and most recently the Family Matters Day Program in Hallowell.
She enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics programs – skiing in the winter and track events in the spring/summer. She was very proud of her ribbons and medals she won at the events she participated in Bangor, Sugarloaf, and the Gardiner-area Olympics.
Jolene loved being around younger children, especially playing games with them. She also loved country music and going to the Broken Acres Family Retreat in Jefferson. She participated in summer camp programs. Bowling, swimming, car races, watching basketball, baseball and soccer games with her extended family were things she enjoyed doing. Jolene’s trips to Ocean Point with her father were special to her. Her smile and outbursts will be sadly missed by all.
Jolene was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Leon and Ruth Johnston; and paternal grandparents, Harold and Ruth Witham.
She is survived by mother, Donna Witham of Jefferson; father, Weston Witham and wife Diane of Boothbay Harbor; brother, Christopher Johnston of Jefferson; special parents, Ronnie and Julie Smith of Rome and their extended family; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Donations in Jolene’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, #300, Topsham, ME 04086; or Maine Parkinson Society, 359 Perry Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
