Jon R. Welton, 70, of Tampa, Fla. passed away Jan. 1. Born in Waterville, he was raised in Damariscotta and was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln Academy. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University and then went onto Texas Christian University to earn his Master’s Degree.
Jon was a retired Air Force Captain. During his time in the Air Force, he was the first airman accepted for the Airman Education and Commissioning Program from Tempelhof Central Airport in Berlin.
Survivors include his wife, Sundra P. Welton of Massachusetts; daughter, Elizabeth Leeman and husband Donald Leeman Jr. of Bremen; son, Sean Welton and wife Trico of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; brothers, Robert Welton and wife Sandy of Dade City, Fla., and Paul Welton of Damariscotta; sisters, Joan Hallowell and husband Larry of Nobleboro, and Ann Libby and husband Leo of Rangeley; six step-children, Moniroath Mau, Monirith Mau, Kunmealy Mau, Phillip Mau, Manet Mau, and Robert Millwee; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service Mon., Jan. 5 at the Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N. 56th St., Temple Terrace, Fla. Memorial service will be held this summer in Maine.
