Joseph “Butch” Sidelinger, 59, of Waldoboro, passed away on April 30 at his home with his loving wife Wendy at his side.
He was born on May 13, 1954 in Derby, Conn. to Avery and Velma Hicks Sidelinger. Butch fought a valiant battle against cancer for the last three years.
Butch grew up in Thomaston and graduated from Georges Valley High School in 1972. He worked as a “tin knocker” for many years working for himself at B&W Sheet Metal and at Bath Iron Works. He also owned Sidelinger Trucking for several years. Butch was a working man.
Butch loved fishing, woodworking, and working on cars, especially his ’57 pumpkin orange Chevy which he frequently entered in local car shows. Butch and his son Jody raced car #69 at Wiscasset Speedway for several years. His last completed project was a toddler size bunk bed for his twin grandsons.
While Butch was always ready to lend a helping hand, he was also a perpetual prankster and relentless joker. Butch was always ready with quick wit, a silly joke, and a sarcastic perspective. He was a social butterfly who loved to play cards and only occasionally ignored the rules.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Tabitha Marie.
Butch’s greatest passion was his family. He is survived by Wendy (Leonard), his wife of 37 years; son, Jody; daughter-in-law, Molly; and grandsons, Donovan, Kael, Kayden, Brennan, and Lennox.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wed., May 7 at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thurs., May 8 at Hall’s of Waldoboro with Rev. Mark Glovin officiating. The burial will follow at Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro.
