Joseph P. Davies, 80, of Jefferson and Doylestown, Penn., passed away peacefully at home on May 29 following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Helene E. Davies. Joe was the beloved husband of Betty Davies for 53 years.
He grew up in Dayton and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949 during the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1953, he attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Miami, Fla. before becoming a co-pilot for Ozark Air Lines. He flew as captain for Ozark Air Lines, later known as TWA, for 30 years before retiring to Cocoa Beach, Fla.
After moving to Florida he became avidly interested in sailing. He spent many happy days sailing his boat on the Banana River, the Intercoastal Waterways and occasionally venturing into the Atlantic.
Joe was a member of Riverside Lodge No. 136 A.F. & A.M. of Jefferson, Doylestown Lodge No. 245 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Kora Shrine of Lewiston.
In addition of his wife, he is survived by sons, Peirce, Christopher (Mariann) and Michael Davies; grandchildren, Christopher, Ian, Cecilia and Rebecca; as well as cousin, Susan Thorne.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Sat., July 14 at the Bunker Hill Baptist Church, Jefferson.
