Josephine “Jo” Ann Hinds, 72, of Waldoboro, passed away Feb. 24 at Maine Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 30, 1937 in Washington, the daughter of Alfred B. Clifford and Christine H. Winchenbach Clifford. The family moved to East Boothbay in 1947 and Jo was a graduate from Boothbay Harbor High School class of 1955.
She started working at the Sylvania plant in Waldoboro in 1955 and worked there for 48 years until her retirement on Feb. 1, 2006. She lived with her grandmother Carrie Winchenbach until she married Lou West. The couple had two children Nick Alan and Pamela Louise. In 1969 she married Alfred Hinds.
Some of the activities that Jo enjoyed were reading playing Bingo, cards, and slot machines. She especially enjoyed traveling, especially with her sister, and telling stories of her many adventures.
Jo was a very loving and giving person and was always there to lend a helping hand whenever she could. She was a great listener and did not mind hearing about whatever it was that may be bothering you. Jo loved to be able to take care of her many great-nieces and nephew, Andrew, who called her “Narny” and Kara, Kaylee and Charity, who called her “Mimi,” even collecting cans and bottles to give them some extra spending money at the county fairs. She was a member of the VFW auxiliary and would collect aluminum tabs for their post.
Jo was very fond of the trips she was able to take with her sister Nancy. The two had morning and evening coffee every day and watched “Nancy Grace” at night.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Hinds; son, Nick West; and father, Alfred Clifford.
Survivors include daughter, Pamela Teel of Waldoboro; grandson, Jacob West of Waldoboro; mother, Christine Clifford of Florida; sisters, Nancy Gordon of Waldoboro and Evelyn Heideniech of Gainesville, Fla.; brothers, Roger Clifford and wife Betsey of E.
