Joyce Ann Davis, 66, of Boothbay and the Gregory Wing, died May 22 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta after a 10 year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Joyce was born Dec. 23, 1943 in Geneva, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Jean Swanson Peterson, and is a graduate of North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, Wash., class of 1963.
After her graduation, she soon began working for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Auke Bay, Alas., where she met her future husband. They returned to the East Coast in 1964, working for the service in Gloucester, Mass. until 1966, when they moved to the Boothbay Region, building their home.
Locally, Joyce worked at The Hutch, with Dr. Nadeau, as his office secretary, and was a greeter with the Boothbay Region Chamber of Commerce. Upon moving to the Gregory Wing, she became the unofficial greeter of new residents, taking them under her wing and helping them become comfortable in their new home.
She loved to sketch dogs, make costume jewelry, root for the Red Sox and Dodgers as they played baseball, growing and tending her house plants, and volunteering at the St. Andrews Hospital Thrift Shop.
Survivors include her husband Clarence “Larry” Davis of Boothbay; daughters, Sarah McNamara and husband Scott of Cumberland, and Dianne Davis and companion Jeremy Almashat of Cumberland; granddaughters, Miranda and Rebecca McNamara of Cumberland; brothers, James Peterson of Suquamish, Wash. and Richard Peterson of Poulsbo, Wash.
Celebration of Joyce’s life 2 p.m. Fri., June 4 at the Gregory Wing, Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
