Joyce Emilee (Klingbail) Haff, 84, passed away peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Feb. 4, just one month before her 85th birthday.
Born March 8, 1926 in Ripon, Wis. to Edward and Frieda (von Shoenburg) Klingbail, Joyce attended Ripon public schools, graduating as Class Valedictorian in the Class of 1944.
Joyce was employed as a bookkeeper at Fullerton Lumber Company in Ripon from 1944 to 1951, when she married Leonard Haff on Feb. 1. The couple spent their honeymoon in New Orleans, La.
Having moved to Oshkosh, Wis. in 1967 with her daughter, Jennifer, Ms. Haff worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer for Wisconsin Public Service for nearly 20 years until her retirement in 1988.
1988 was a memorable year for Joyce. She and a friend spent 15 days in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, traveling by boat and cogwheel train as well as the highway, exploring historic locations, enjoying spectacular scenery and making new friends at after-dinner parties.
In 1989 Joyce joined her daughter and son-in-law, David Lee in Glouster, Ohio and moved again in 1998 to be near them in East Boothbay, then once more to Lincoln Home in Newcastle in November, 2010.
Laughter came easily to Joyce and she touched many lives in a good way.
Joyce played cribbage and was a pretty hot Scrabble player. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and recreational painting. She was an avid reader and, with her cats, Whisky, Amelia and Priscilla, had an interest in bird watching.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Edward Klingbail, Jr.
She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law of East Boothbay; brother, Kermit and wife Joyce Klingbail of West Leyden, N.Y.; nephew, Ian and wife Joan Klingbail of West Leyden, N.Y.; niece, Tracy and husband Brian Rice of Manchester, Conn.; and grand-nieces Emily and husband Ryan Bornt of Mayfield, N.Y. and Elaine and husband Elroy Jr. and baby Eli Moore of Boonville, N.Y.
At Joyce’s request, no funeral service will be held. Burial of her ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon.
