Joyce R. Penniman, 57, of New Harbor, passed away on the morning of June 7 at her home after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer.
The daughter of James A. and Shirley (Wood) Kingsley, she was born April 1, 1950, in Charleston, S.C.
Her father, being a Naval career man, traveled extensively with his family. Joyce traveled throughout the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast, where she eventually settled in White River Junction, Vt.
Following her graduation from high school, she earned her beautician degree and for 10 years worked as a stylist in Boston. She later relocated to Orlando, Fla., where she was the owner of the only concession allowed within the Church Street Station region.
Joyce came back to the Northeast, where she met and later married Roy Penniman on April 18, 1987.
While in New Harbor she was active as a volunteer for many years at the Bristol Consolidated School. She loved to attend her son’s organ recitals and her daughter’s ballet recitals. She also loved to attend local baseball games, travel and go antiquing, but her greatest love was reserved for her family and her peaceful time spent at the family home at the lake.
She was predeceased by her mother, father and stepfather, Herbert O. Raymond.
She leaves her husband of 20 years, and two children, Mackenzie Penniman and Troy Penniman, all of New Harbor; brother, James A. Kingsley of Fayetteville, N.C.; sisters, Carleen J. Baker of Barrington, N.H., and Brenda J. Courtemanche of Chandler, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
