Judith Althea Baker Bisson, 68, passed away on Oct. 31 at the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation after suffering a stroke earlier this spring. She was born in Damariscotta on June 26, 1947, the daughter of Harold and Althea Baker, of Windsor.
Judy grew up in Jefferson and Windsor and graduated from Erskine Academy in 1965. She graduated secretarial school and married Arthur Bisson in 1969. They lived in Lewiston and then moved to several homes in Missouri and Ohio. Their marriage ended in 1998 and Judy moved back to Maine to be closer to family.
While in Missouri, Judy and Arthur joyfully welcomed daughter, Jennifer Judith to their family. Judy was actively involved in the local PTA, volunteered at Jennifer’s school and even participated in a special “mom’s routine” at one of Jennifer’s dance recitals. Together they traveled to many places, including San Francisco, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Florida. One of their favorite places to visit was Disney World.
In 2000, Judy became a grandmother to Roxie May Duff. Judy was a very dedicated grandmother, raising Roxie for 14 years. While raising Roxie, Judy worked as an education technician, mostly at Windsor Elementary School before her retirement in 2010. After her retirement, Judy and Roxie took a very special trip to Disney World to celebrate Roxie’s 10th birthday. Judy was excited to share this experience with Roxie and it was one of her most treasured memories.
Judy is predeceased by her parents; brother, Harold Stuart Baker Jr.; sister, Mary Baker Wilson; and granddaughter, Faith Bisson.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Bisson and partner Dean Stone; grandchildren, Roxie Duff, Alyssa Duff and Jaden Stone; brother, Richard Baker and wife Liz; in-laws, Donald Wilson and Wanita Baker; several nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., Nov. 7 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 237 Eastern Ave., Augusta.
