Julia “Judy” Caroline Noke, 76, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Nov. 28 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 14, 1937 in Owls Head, the daughter of the late John and Frances (Howard) Nason. Growing up in Rockland, she attended local schools before starting her family and career in the work force.
Raising her family mostly in Rockland, she also worked fulltime at a local cannery as well as at various restaurants in town. A wizard in the kitchen, if she were handed two ingredients, a gourmet dish could be created. One of her favorite dishes was macaroni and tomatoes with salted pork.
A selfless person, she was always looking out for those in need. Whether it was a meal or a roof over their head, she was always willing to help in any way she could. She loved to crochet and made afghans for all of her grandchildren, something they all cherish. Always on the lookout for a deal too good to be true, she spent many of her weekends at various lawn sales and flea markets or flipping through the pages of a new Uncle Henry’s. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and planning family vacations with various activities for everyone.
Spending time with her family was something that she loved to do and was always looking forward to having everyone over for the holidays. Christmas was a special time around her home as she spent all year preparing and shopping for it.
She was married to Curtis Noke for 22 years and even after the divorce, they remained friends and he helped her out when her health began to decline.
She was predeceased by brothers, Robert, William, and Gene Nason; sister, Merlen Vose; and great-grandson, Mitchell Smith.
She is survived by daughters, Carmaleta Harris and husband Neil of Waldoboro, and Judy Wedick and husband Rick of New Ipswich, N.H.; children of the heart who she cared for deeply, Dickey Wadsworth of Friendship, and Penny Hinckley of Bristol; sister, Betty Sprague of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Clifford Coburn of Montville, Julie Smith of Bangor, Zeb Woodbury of Rockland, Zack Woodbury of Warren, Warren Buchanan of New Hampshire, and Cassandra Buchanan of New Hampshire; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 at the home of Carmaleta and Neil Harris, 11 Union Rd., Waldoboro.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice House in Rockland.
