Julia Morgan Hodgkins, 27, of Austin, Tex., died Nov. 1 as the result of an auto-pedestrian accident.
Morgan was born in Washington, DC, on July 7, 1981. Her family moved to Houston, Tex., in August 1981 and to Austin, Tex., in July 1982. Morgan graduated from McCallum High School in Austin in 1999. In 2003, she graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., with an Associate in Occupational Studies in Baking and Pastry Arts degree. Following graduation, Morgan began a career in the food service industry, working as a cook for some of Austin’s best restaurants and catering companies.
Morgan was a happy child with a winning smile and a cheerful nature. She matured into an accomplished young woman who was intelligent, loving and kind. Although she grew up in Texas, she remained connected to her roots in the Northeastern U.S., particularly those in Maine, which is her father’s home. She loved her great-grandparents’ farm on Hodgkins Hill in Jefferson and the Old German Lutheran Church in Waldoboro. She was especially fond of the sea, and enjoyed picnics at Pemaquid Point as well as time at her grandparents’ cottage on the coast in Steuben.
Morgan is survived by her parents, Doris (Wisniewski) and Michael Morgan of Venice, Fla., and Blair Hodgkins of Austin, Tex.; sister, Lauren Hodgkins of Austin, Tex.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wisniewski of Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Weston Hodgkins of Brewer; boyfriend, William Holder of Austin, Tex.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Maine and elsewhere.
