Julia O. Cousins, 95, died at her Chase Point residence in Damariscotta on Dec. 23.
Julia was born in Unity, Dec. 19, 1912, a daughter of Maude and Merle Morrell. She was educated at the local schools and later moved to Portland. She had nursing training and worked many years at the Morrill’s Corner Nursery School.
In 1936, she married C. Howard Cousins and their union lasted 71 years until Howard died in August of 2007. They lived for many years in the Gorham area and enjoyed entertaining at their cottage on Pequaquit Lake and later, RV camping, mainly at Deer Isle.
Julia was a person of many hobbies and interests. Her extensive doll collection was probably her most prized possession. She also had a notable rock collection and was a craft enthusiast. She was a person of great enthusiasm and loved people, nature and the small pleasures of life.
In 2003, she and Howard moved to Chase Point Assisted Living in Damariscotta. They made many new friends and Julia became active with the “Bell Ringers” group. She was ever grateful for the loving care they received at Chase Point. The families of Julia and Howard Cousins want to say a sincere thank you to the entire staff at Chase Point Assisted Living at Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta. During the four years Julia and Howard were at Chase Point, they felt that they had been adopted by a wonderful family and also felt very much at home. Their lives were filled with many activities that they enjoyed. We are well aware that all of you went the extra mile caring for Howard who passed away in August of 2007 and for Julia who recently passed away.
Julia is survived by many friends, a cousin, several nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Garden Fund at Chase Point, 51 Schooner St., Damariscotta, ME 04543.
