June Cooley Pitcher Stiman, 88, died May 7 in Jefferson. June was born June 25, 1924 in Washington to Cleber and Myra Whittier Cooley. She grew up in Washington and attended local schools, graduating from Cony High School in Augusta.
June married Ernest Pitcher in 1940, and together they raised their four children on the family farm. Ernest predeceased June in 1955.
June married David Stiman in 1963, and helped him found Stiman Steel. She worked as the bookkeeper and manager for the Augusta business for many years.
June was a 50-year member of the Evening Star Grange in Washington and belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, O.E.S. She loved gardening, cooking, and feeding her family and extended family her home-cooked meals, especially her pies. She also enjoyed her summer home, dancing, country music, camping, and traveling to Florida. She especially loved her dog, Abbey.
She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Ernest Pitcher; infant son, Anthony Pitcher; second husband, David Stiman; sisters, Betty Orff and Dorothy Moore; and brothers, Cleber “Bud” Cooley Jr. and Talbot Cooley.
June is survived by a sister, Patricia Creamer and husband Earl of Washington; brother, Parker Cooley and wife Nancy of Westminster, Mass.; sons, Mark Pitcher of Augusta, Benjamin Pitcher and wife Sharon of Sherman, and Barry Pitcher and wife Joyce of Washington; daughter, Penny Guerin of Portland; stepchildren, Aaron Stiman and wife Anne of Augusta, Harry Stiman and wife Penny of Augusta, and Carolyn Stiman of Mahopac, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate June’s life will be held 2 p.m., Mon., May 13 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Burial will follow in the Levensaler Cemetery in Washington.
