June Elizabeth Boynton Starrett, 77, of Warren, passed away March 1 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
She was born March 25, 1931 in Eddington, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Edna Wood Boynton. She grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Brewer High School in the class of 1950. On Dec. 29, 1950 she married Burton “Wayne” Starrett. In 1951 they purchased a farm on Rt. 90 in Warren and started a family soon after.
She was a member of the local school board in the 60s and helped to get the “Brick School” in Warren built.
From 1969-1971 she worked with Wayne on refurbishing the Olson House-Wyeth Museum in Cushing. She did the interior painting, distressed the exterior clapboards with wire brush and after completion hosted visitors who came to see the house and the Wyeth art that was exhibited there.
June was a homemaker all of her married life. In the 80s and 90s June supplemented the family income by doing maintenance for the post office and town office as well as served as an assistant to the tax assessor. She enjoyed being involved in and staying up on affairs of the town of Warren.
She was an active member of the Rebekahs and the Warren Baptist Church.
She and Wayne enjoyed music and traveled to many bluegrass festivals and enjoyed trips to Nashville, Tenn. and Branson, Mo.
June enjoyed time spent with family, cooking and baking for her family, mowing her extensive lawns, her flowers, her vast picture collection, her beloved pets, snow shoeing and snowmobiling. A fact not known by all was June’s love for gadgets. In recent years, her favorite “gadgets” were her digital camera and personal computer. She taught herself how to use the computer, store her pictures and e-mail the kids and grandkids.
