June M. Riley, 87, of Damariscotta, passed away on the evening of Oct. 31 at the home of her daughter in Louisville, Ky. The daughter of John M. and Florence (Farwell) McGrath, she was born in Portland March 13, 1921.
A graduate of Portland High School, June entered the Women’s Army Corps, serving as a Captain and Company Commander for enlisted women and Assistant Commandant of the station compliment responsible for all WAC personnel of 1000. She served honorably from 1942-1946 and was decorated with the WAAC Service Medal, the American Theater Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
She married Wallace M. Riley Jan. 19, 1945 and lived, with her family, in several areas of the world, including Nigeria, Australia, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. They came to their home in Damariscotta in 1978.
Mrs. Riley was predeceased by her son Randy Riley in 1995.
She is survived by her loving husband Wallace, of nearly 64 years, now living in Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Kathy Riley of Louisville, Ky., and Jocelyn Oslear of Australia; one granddaughter, Jessica; two great-granddaughters, Jamira and Ava; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to be with the family 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Mon., Nov. 10 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with a service to commemorate her life to follow at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery, Damariscotta.
