Katharine DeLong Smith, 63, of Pemaquid, died Nov. 13 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta surrounded by family and friends.
Kathy was born in Worcester, Mass. on June 10, 1945, the daughter of Richard and Barbara DeLong. Kathy was a 1963 graduate of Westboro High School, Westboro, Mass. and also a 1966 graduate of Worcester Jr. College of Worcester, Mass. Kathy worked several years as an insurance clerk in the central Massachusetts area until her marriage in the summer of 1972. She and her husband made their home in Westboro, Mass. where Kathy was a stay at home mom to Alison and Jedd, their two children.
In 1984 the family moved to Dexter and in 1991 they moved to Pemaquid, where Kathy still made her home. Kathy started work at Miles Memorial Hospital in 1993 where she worked in the Medical/Surgical unit as unit secretary for 15 years, until this past July.
Kathy was a gifted gardener, an avid reader, doer of crossword puzzles and lover of antiques. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her spirit and sense of humor touched everyone.
Survivors include daughter, Alison Morin and husband Derek of Bath; son, Jedd Smith and wife Tracy of Boothbay; mother, Barbara DeLong of New Harbor; siblings, Pat Landry of Bristol, Judy DeLong of Milford, Mass., Rick DeLong and Julie Geyer of Pemaquid, and David DeLong and wife Cindy of New Harbor; grandchildren, Josey Smith, Brett Smith, and Xavier Downing, all of Boothbay; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; and former husband, Bruce Smith of Caribou.
Open house in her memory 1-4 p.m., Sat., Nov. 22 at 72 Bradley Hill Rd., Pemaquid. Family and friends are invited to come and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations go to the American Diabetes Assoc. Please mail checks to the American Diabetes Association, c/o Faith Linsky, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210. Please include in the memo, “In memory of Kathy Smith.”
