Kathleen Costello, 58, of Waldoboro, died unexpectedly of natural causes at her home in late February. She moved to Maine from Connecticut in 2000 with her husband, Michael, when they retired from their jobs. They settled on Dutch Neck and quickly became active in the Dutch Neck Community Club where Kathleen served as secretary. They loved everything about Maine, and especially enjoyed the wildlife that they observed in the fields and woods around their house. Kathleen took pride in her garden and enjoyed making jams and jellies from their own raspberries and peaches.
Michael passed away in June 2004 after a brave battle with cancer, during which Kathleen provided valiant support.
In her early career Kathleen served in the Peace Corps in South America. In Connecticut she worked as a medical technician and studied photography. After Michael’s death, she worked at Miles Memorial Hospital for several years. She retired again last year to spend more time at home, tending to her garden, cooking, and looking after her beloved Persian cat Tashi.
She leaves her mother, Jane Abram; sister, Kristen Thorbecke, both of Pittsburgh, Penn.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends in the Midcoast area.
