Kathleen F. Schoonmaker, 83, of Pemaquid, passed away April 30 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a brief illness, with family by her side.
Kathy was born in Mineola, Long Island, N.Y. on Jan. 21, 1927, the daughter of Francis and Catherine Holman. Kathy retired from Miller Tube Inc., College Point, N.Y., and moved to Pemaquid in 1984 where she then worked the front desk and switchboard at Miles Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed her time at Miles, making friends every day, and spending time with those who were patients of the hospital or Cove’s Edge.
Kathy loved animals and until her passing enjoyed the company of two Maine Coon cats, Cooney and Bootsy. She found peace in the coastal area, traveling down to the lighthouse to sit and watch the ocean beat against the rocks below the lighthouse.
Kathy is survived by a daughter, Linda Zappavigna; son, Ricky Schoonmaker; nephew, John DiDio and wife Indira; grandchildren, John, Mark, Cara, Richard, Peter, Christina, David, and Jamie; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Those who wish may make memorial donations in Kathleen’s name to the Town of Bristol Fire Department, as they provided wellness visits to Kathy.
